At Viridis, we worked on remediating the issues with insufficient heating and draughts at Loughborough College Block B. We aimed to improve the comfort conditions and reduce operational costs of the existing building and to assess the feasibility of adding systems to a building that may have a remaining life not exceeding 10 years, and recommending options within a budget to do so. We assessed the current building energy consumption through SBEM model and found that the building currently has a ‘D’ on the EPC rating. Our proposed improvements when modelled in the SBEM upgraded the building's EPC rating to a ‘B’ with only mechanical and electrical means. Additionally, we achieved an estimated reduction in operational energy of 30-35%.
