Bishop Burton College Sports Lighting

Bishop Burton College has state-of-the-art sports facilities which include eight high-quality outdoor match and training pitches, a 3G all-weather pitch and three high-quality outdoor pitches for football and rugby. At Viridis, we studied the feasibility of replacing the 42.2kW metal halide bulbs on Bishop Burton College pitches with energy-saving low lifetime costs LED bulbs. The floodlight design was assessed undertaking lighting design calculations supported by the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers(CIBSE), The Society of Light and Lighting recommendations for Sports Lighting. Furthermore, this change represents a significant payback for the college which comes primarily from reduced maintenance costs over time and secondarily from energy efficiency improvements. Approximately, 72% savings in the energy consumption per year; which means around £10.5K in economic savings.
