Tonnes of CO2 per year saved

Boarders College

This project aimed to considerably reduce energy usage with the most sustainable and efficient methods possible. The energy for heating the building had the greatest demand. Therefore, an innovative wastewater heating system was proposed which intercepts wastewater from a nearby sewer line. The system takes advantage of the warmth that is naturally contained in the water. Then, with a heat exchanger and heat pump arrangement, it transfers heat to the building’s heating system. The heat pumps do not directly interact with the wastewater but rather very efficiently upgrade the heat from the wastewater so that it can effectively heat the building. Using high-performance heat pumps helped to further reduce the primary energy consumption from fossil fuels and to significantly reduce the CO2 emissions by approximately 170 tonnes per year.
